This three-part book came to Helen Schucman, a psychologist at Columbia University in the United States, during an inner dictation that began in 1965. The Course material was first published in 1976 by the Foundation for Inner Peace (USA). Since then, more than 1,500,000 copies have been purchased in nearly fifty countries. What is this book? The Teaching of Miracles was created primarily to facilitate individual learning. The book consists of three parts: the main text, the workbook, and the teacher's manual. The order in which students study the individual parts and how they study them depends solely on their needs and preferences. The Course has a carefully thought-out, step-by-step curriculum, both theoretical and practical, which emphasizes practice and experience over theory. Although it uses Christian language, it deals with universal spiritual themes and repeatedly states that this path is only one possible version of the universal curriculum. There are many other methods, differing only in form - in the end all paths lead to God. The main text, which is mostly theoretical, lays the foundations of the system of thought, and the exercises in the workbook are then built on this. Without practical application, the main text remains mostly a collection of abstract concepts and cannot fulfill the main purpose of the Course. The workbook contains three hundred and sixty-five exercises, one for each day of the year. However, it is not necessary to proceed at this pace: you can linger for several days with an exercise that you particularly like, our instructions only ask that you do not want to do more than one per day. Finally, the teacher's manual offers answers to the most frequently asked questions by students and clarifies the most important terms of the Course. The Course does not pretend to be complete, and the exercises in the workbook are not intended to make any further practice unnecessary. At the end, each student is left alone with their Inner Teacher, who will guide their further progress at their own discretion.
