The wisdom of the County, or: how to be your hobbit? In the middle of the country, in the shadow of proud elves, brave people, warrior dwarves and disgraceful orcs, lies a people, a small community whose members desire nothing but peace and happiness. Hobbits don’t care about power, they don’t want to conquer territories from others, they don’t want to rule over other peoples or their peers - they just want to eat, drink and sleep good, work quietly in their garden, and in the evenings when they smoke a pipe, it’s wonderful they want to listen to stories. The life of a man of the modern age is different from that of hobbits in almost every respect. The rush, the chase for money, the compulsion to perform, the dread of today and tomorrow - all poison our days. We have created a society in which it is impossible to switch, it is impossible to slow down, to stop, to enjoy the small pleasures. We are incapable of living like hobbits, even though that is what we want in the depths of our hearts. When we read JRR Tolkien’s books, when we watch Peter Jackson’s films, we have a desire to live in a hobbit house, eat hobbit food, live as a hobbit. Noble Smith summarizes the events of the classic Tolkien novel stream, sheds light on the character, good and bad qualities of the characters, and the characters (Bilbo and Frodo the Bagger, Samu Csavardi, Trufa and Pippin, Aragorn and Faramir, Gimli and Legolas, Gandalf and Saruman, the Elves and through the example of orcs) gives concrete, practical advice on how we can transform our way of thinking, how we can change our values, how to find the good in the simplest objects and activities that we are looking for in vain.
