Description
The introductory study, which stands at the forefront of writings rethinking the place of the Hungarian philosophical tradition, discusses the concept of national philosophy, focusing on the Hungarian peculiarity that the program here for the first time aimed to narrate the Hungarian philosophical tradition within a national framework, instead of the future visions more typical elsewhere; and then, after all this, he outlines the plan for cultivating the history of comparative philosophy in East-Central Europe. The first block of studies problematizes the nature of national philosophy with comparative studies, also reflecting on the historical evolution of the concept of East-Central Europe. The second series of studies discusses the Hungarian philosophical traditions before the emergence of national philosophy, presenting the borderline situations of authors and works, starting from the early modern debates through the relationship between philosophy and literature during the Enlightenment to the changes in the structure of the philosophical public during the Kant debate and the reform era. The subsequent, largest chapter contains case studies of the era of the Hungarian philosophical tradition after the validity of the concept of national philosophy, with the demand that their authors reinterpret the place of individual Hungarian philosophical trends in the region and in Europe, from positivism through neo-idealism and neo-Thomism to early phenomenology , referring also to the interaction with the natural sciences of the time. The writings of the last study block provide variations on the fate of certain elements of the Hungarian philosophical tradition after the Second World War in the circumstances of dictatorship, emigration and regime change.
