Description
Endre Tóth is an archaeologist, a candidate of historical sciences, a doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and an outstanding scholar of the Holy Crown. As the author of this monumental volume, devoted among others to the origins and significance of the crown, he summed up his research of several decades. He relates the process of his research and discusses methodological issues, while answering fundamental questions and providing a historical context for the extraordinary significance of the Holy Crown and the coronation regalia. The volume contains more than one hundred, thus far unpublished, new photographs. The enlarged version of the Hungarian volume (2018) was published in English in 2021. Contributions to the content were made by academic staff member Attila Zsoldos, who in his introduction gives an overview of the history of Hungary, placing it on the imaginary map of the events and connections in medieval Europe. The text on the history of the crown is augmented by the most recent findings of the research conducted by historian Géza Pálffy and his team. The publication comes full circle with an essay written by legal historian Attila Horváth on the Doctrine of the Holy Crown. Archaeologist Endre Tóth, candidate of historical sciences, doctor of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, is also an outstanding figure in the study of the Holy Crown in Hungary. The author summarizes the results of several decades of research in this monumental volume, which also presents the history and significance of the Crown's origin. He describes the history of his research, raises methodological problems, answers basic questions, and places the outstanding significance of the Holy Crown and its associated insignia in historical context. The volume contains more than a hundred new, never-before-published photos. An expanded version of the Hungarian volume published in 2018 was published in English in 2021. The content was contributed by academician Attila Zsoldos, who in his introduction reviews the history of Hungary and places it on an imaginary map of medieval Europe in terms of historical events and relationships. The description of the history of the crown is supplemented by the latest research results of historian Géza Pálffy and his research group. The book is concluded and framed by an essay on the doctrine of the Holy Crown by legal historian Attila Horváth. The Hungarian-language volume of the Hungarian Holy Crown and Coronation Badges is currently not available, and its planned revised and expanded reissue is expected in the last quarter of 2022.
